Convert VMDK to VHD or VHDX Files

  • Convert vmdk to vhd if you want to create image fast from Virtual machine
  1. Download the "VMDK2VHD" converter from http://www.ccboot.com/download/vhdtools.
  2. Double-click the "VMDK2VHD" converter executable to run the program.
  3. The "VMDK2VHD" dialog box will pop up
  4. In the dialog box, locate and select the VMDK file that you want to convert to VHD.
  5. Choose the destination folder where you want to save the converted VHD file.
  6. Configure any additional settings or options provided by the converter, if necessary.
  7. Start the conversion process by clicking the appropriate button (usually labeled "Convert" or similar).
  8. Wait for the converter to complete the VMDK to VHD conversion process.
  9. Once the conversion is finished, verify that the VHD file has been created successfully in the specified destination folder.


  • Convert vhdx to vhd

Converting VHDX to VHD using Hyper-V you need to have Hyper-V installed on your Windows 10 machine.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select "Apps and Features" or press Win + X and choose "Programs and Features."
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features on or off."
  3. Scroll down and check "Hyper-V."
  4. Click "OK" and wait for the installation to complete.
  5. After installation, you'll be prompted to restart your computer. Do so to complete the setup.
  6. Press Win + S, type "Hyper-V Manager," and open the application.
  7. In Hyper-V Manager, right-click on the newly created virtual machine and select "Edit Disk."
  8. Browse to the location of your VHDX file and select it.
  9. Click "Next" and choose the "VHD" format.
  10. Complete the wizard, and the conversion will start.
  11. VHD is ready.

 


  • Convert vhd to vmdk if you want to restore the image to the Virtual machine.
  1. Download winimage from https://www.winimage.com/download.htm
  2. Go to the "Disk" menu.
  3. Select "Convert Virtual Hard Disk image..." from the dropdown menu.
  4. Browse and select the VHD file for conversion.
  5. Choose "VMware VMDK" as the save format.
  6. Configure additional settings if necessary.
  7. Click "OK" or "Convert" to start the conversion.
  8. Choose a location to save the converted VMDK file and provide a name.
  9. Wait for the conversion process to complete.
  10. Verify the presence of the converted VMDK file in the specified location.
